Hello, I’m Bessie Chow, founder and principal of Go Beyond Equity.

As a governance professional, I bring experience across public, private, and not-for-profit sectors, including work with Indigenous organizations, media, and Crown corporations. Working across different contexts has shaped how I approach governance: with curiosity, care, and an appreciation for the people, relationships, and realities behind organizational decisions.

My Approach

I believe good governance requires both rigour and humanity. It means listening carefully, considering different perspectives, exercising discernment, and making purposeful decisions—even when the choices are difficult. For me, governance is ultimately about creating the conditions for people and organizations to move forward with clarity, integrity, and intention.

I meet organizations where they are—both in place and pace. I work collaboratively, developing approaches that can evolve as needs and aspirations change.

Commitment to Continuous Learning

With a BA in Political Science and Sociology from the University of Victoria, an MBA from Simon Fraser University, and completion of the Chartered Governance Institute of Canada’s International Qualifying Program, I bring formal education and a commitment to lifelong learning to my practice.

I’m curious about how organizations work—how people, systems, cultures, and structures interact—and that curiosity continues to shape how I think, learn, and approach my work.
